Offering more Youtube content

If you’re subscribed to https://www.youtube.com/@Peakoilcompany then you might have noticed an increase in content there. I’ve been posting short and long videos about camping more broadly, with little to no direct marketing of Peak Oil Company. Also posting to Instagram. I hope it’s interesting and useful.

In a past life I used to make a bit of video art. In another past life I used to teach online. I’m planning to combine the two genres and post content about our trips, tips and gear to Youtube.

At the moment the plan is to go on trips wearing and carrying Peak Oil Company gear, and shoot video of what we’re doing, how we do it, the gear we use and what we think is important to know. Most likely canoe camping, ski touring, 4WD touring, going to festivals, and other things we normally do in the outdoors - all family friendly and useful to know.

From that footage I intend to make longer format atmospheric and interpretive video of the environment we were in and the activities we did; then also to make shorter format and much more literal videos that demonstrate the gear, or review gear made by others, the odd opinion on something, or any other thing I think is worthy of a share.

I recently put this plan to the test, going out for a few days canoe camping on the Ovens River, near Wangaratta. If you can track back through the posts, you’ll find a longer form atmospheric and interpretive video about the trip, and a series of short, 30 second to 5 minute videos demonstrating techniques and ideas.

Here’s the longer format video:

There are also a bunch of 1 minute shorts for doom scrollers to get into.
