Offering more Youtube content
If you’re subscribed to https://www.youtube.com/@Peakoilcompany then you might have noticed an increase in content there. I’ve been posting short and long videos about camping more broadly, with little to no direct marketing of Peak Oil Company. Also posting to Instagram. I hope it’s interesting and useful.
Japanese conservatism, camping culture, second hand stores and reflections on Australian camping
Comments and observations on the camping culture we saw in Japan recently, expanding on the last post about testing our gear camping for a month in a Japanese late winter.
Testing our gear in late winter Japan.
We wore wool anoraks, wool trousers, hemp cotton knit long underwear, possum/merino/silk knitted sweaters and waxed canvas anoraks and over pants. We each carried a roll top bum bag, haversacks and kit bags
Bowyangs on Peak Oil Company pants
If you know what bowyangs are, you need no convincing. If you haven’t heard of bowyangs, check this post out and see how our wool trousers hold them.
Sheepskin vests and some wool coats now online
The website shop is now updated with available stock. Mostly vests and wool coats.

Anorak and Wool Coat launches on Kickstarter
Kickstarter for the anorak and wool coat launches.
Update on anorak production, getting ready for the 2022 effort
The 2021 anorak project went well, many lessons learnt. The business broke even and we know better what the margin and quantity needs to be to generate an income.
Anorak kickstarter completed
Thank you everyone for trusting us with your pledge, and for your patience and understanding through the delays. We've received good feedback on the deliveries that have made it through so far, with some photos to show.
Anorak Kickstarter launched
What a great video by Jaccob McKay. So begins a crowdfunding campaign to produce 100 wax canvas anoraks in a Melbourne production line. Having Jaccob’s help with photos and videos for this campaign has been invaluable. It has been a surprising amount of work to get to this point, and it will be interesting to see how it goes.
Blackwood canoe paddles
My passion for canoeing has me making canoe paddles now in three distinct shapes. The long paddle for open water, the white water paddle for rapids and turbulent water, and the light paddle for all round easy touring.
A sheepskin sleeping bag!
In a slow and deliberate process, I've been developing a sheepskin sleeping bag, made from the offcuts of the vests. I've been using them now for a complete turn of the seasons, in the summertime as rugs, in the wintertime as sleeping bags.
New video for Peak Oil Company by Michael Mouritz
Michael Mouritz has made Peak Oil Company a nice new video. Working with Michael was an effortless pleasure. He's really good at what he does.
In Search of New Dimensions
In a series of serendipitous moments and heart awakening events over recent months, I've decided to move PeakOilCompany into being a project much more aligned to personal and artistic interests.
Samples, wholesale, onshore, offshore, local
A bigger international brand contacted Peak Oil Company a few months ago, asking for samples and wholesale prices. Having a range is something we've been wanting to get going for a while now, so we took the opportunity to develop a number of products to see where the interest might lead.
New product - a frame pack and bag system
It's been a mad mad couple of months, designing, prototyping, redesigning, re-prototyping a frame pack we're calling Bag 1, with modular system extensions we're calling bags 2, 3 and 4 :)
Kangaroo Leather Jacket
Did you catch a glimpse of the kangaroo leather jacket? It was commissioned by a local mountains fella. Working with kangaroo leather is super luxurious, and an intimidating prospect. One false stitch and it's start over, buy new skin. Expensive.
Ah Toggles
Here's another custom jacket just finished. It takes the design developed in the kangaroo leather jacket project, applied in a light brown waxed canvas, and adding the usual hood and wool lining.
