Samples, wholesale, onshore, offshore, local

A bigger international brand contacted Peak Oil Company a few months ago, asking for samples and wholesale prices. Having a range is something we've been wanting to get going for a while now, so we took the opportunity to develop a number of products to see where the interest might lead. Things are looking promising for 2018, but where could this be leading? We've always been custom made to order, which is something we'll keep doing, but how might we manage if a bigger order came in?

As is on our About page:

..we're interested in making rugged and durable products, suitable for harsh Australian conditions, and made with far less dependence on petrochemicals and super industrial processes. We're searching for deeply sustainable business practices that are socially beneficial for generations to come.

Given the interest and probable expectations of the larger brand, there's an opportunity for us to learn some things and test some ideas. Our first idea was to offer two different wholesale prices. One for made in Australia and another for made in Vietnam. Made in Australia is a higher price but less of a risk with a minimum order of five. Made in Vietnam is a lower price but a much higher risk with a minimum order of eighty. The materials are the same in both options.

The decision of where products are made is with the customer. Peak Oil Company will always have an open studio in Australia, developing and testing products and custom making to small run orders. But if orders exceed our capacity in the studio we want to call on a network of partner makers, including production factories in Australia and offshore, to wherever the sustainable level of production might be.
